In VSD treatment, the ideal dressing for contact with the wound should be able to deliver negative pressure to every part of the wound in a balanced manner, from the superficial part to the tissue at the base of the wound.

Since wound healing processes produce many kinds of drainage, the ideal dressing should have a mesh or pore large enough to remove not only various fluids (e.g., edema, lymph, leaking blood) but also to reduce the burden of bacterial infection, removing blood clots, degraded proteins, or other debris on the wound surface.

Since the dressing is in direct contact with the wound, the covering and removal of the dressing should be basically painless, therefore, the tissue of the wound should not grow into the mesh and pores of the dressing (and form a whole), if the above situation occurs, when the dressing is replaced, a very delicate layer of tissue will be torn off, which can help fill the wound, which will make the treatment effect regress and cause the patient considerable pain.
